OrcaTec LLC adds email threading and search suggestions to its toolkit
Ojai, CA (April 24, 2008) OrcaTec releases version 2.1 of the OrcaTec Information Discovery Toolkit, adding two new tools, email threading and
search suggestions.
The first tool discovers email threads. Email threads are the conversational strings that result when the recipient of an email replies to it or forwards it. Some estimates are that about a third of all emails are part of a thread. Viewing individual emails in the context of an ongoing conversation makes them more intelligible and useful. The threading tool combines information from email headers (metadata) and email contents to group emails into threads and it identifies emails that are fully contained (subsumed) in later emails so that the fully quoted emails do not have to be read separately.
The second addition is an automatic suggestion tool. Wildcards are so 20th Century. A user might be interested in finding all of the variations of the word “plan,” such as “planning,” “planned,” etc. Using a wildcard, such as “plan*” to search for this information would give all of these variations plus “plant,” “planet,” “plantation,” and maybe others. The OrcaTec Suggest tool, on the other hand, predicts what the user wants to type as they type it and suggests terms from the index, including spelling variations, that match these characters. No more surprise matches to clutter up the search results. No more unanticipated spellings. The only words it suggests are words that have actually been indexed so the user has complete control over what gets searched.
